Four Directions

I envisioned this painting hanging in the dining room, which is made up of blues and browns. I laid down circles complemented with straight lines for the grid, then used a lot of "transparent" acrylics, bouncing them with an old worn-out brush to get a textured, glowing look. There are also plenty of opaque blues and browns, as well as metallics. For some of the lighter opaque colors, I glazed them with glossy diluted acrylics to darken the hues and to give interest. Finally, I incorporated insets and dots to the piece. I decided to call it "Four Directions" because when it was finished, the corners looked a bit like ordinates on a map.
