My goal here was to create a picture in muted warm tones to highlight golds, ochres, burgundies and browns. The grid is a combination of circular shapes and straight lines and I painted it with blocks of color in mind, putting yellow in the center edged by orange or red and then brown along the border. When the piece was done, I liked it but I had a hard time naming it, so I hung it on the wall for a few days and kept coming back to it to look at it and get a sense of what it reminded me of. After looking at it for a few days, I decided it reminded me of a banner or flag from the Crusades, so I called it "Crusade".
