I originally made this painting in May 2021 with the idea of painting the geometric interior of this piece entirely of metallic paints with the outside of checkerboard bright yellows, oranges and reds, adding texture into the by bouncing the brush in the squares. When it was all finished, the painting reminded me of a dark sun, hence the name "Black Hole Sun". But three years later, we pulled it out of the closet and realized that it just didn’t work; the big sun was too dark. So I revised the painting in May 2024 by putting in the bright starburst array in the center of the geometric sun, and with that additional element incorporated, I now think the painting is much improved.
