Warm Glow

24 in (diameter) circle,

3/25

I wanted to evoke the sun in this painting, starting in the center with yellows and then radiating out into the oranges and reds. I was frustrated by the lack of adherence of paint to this canvas, such that when I masked in a subsequent color, prior colors would peel off the canvas onto the back of the tape (even low-tack tape). Once in a while a canvas comes along that has this unfortunate tendency, and I've learned some "tricks" to deal with this such as using mainly transparent colors and laying down paint with some faint impasto to hide the hundreds of touch-ups that inevitably need to happen to finish the piece. I also added stamped dots to the piece where I thought they made sense. I can't remember another canvas with worse retention than this one, and I was grateful when the piece was finished and I could varnish everything in place!
