I painted this piece to be included in an upcoming Lexington Art League exhibition called "Prismatic". It is the largest square painting I've done to date, and it follows the "extended prism" pattern I've come to appreciate, meaning that I include magentas in between the violets and reds, and teals in between the greens and the blues. It is a complex piece whose grid was carefully laid down in a symmetric pattern. Each color block has between 13 - 16 distinct colors in it and I stayed very true to the grid when laying down the paint, meaning that even the tiniest patterns were preserved. As I painted the piece, which easily took over 100 hours to do, I taped over the preceding color block before going on to the next. I did this mainly to protect the sections from errant paint or a mishandled tube that would scratch the canvas, but it had the effect of an "unveiling" at the end, where I finally could see all the colors together - a magnificent moment and a feeling of joy for me at the final realization of my initial vision for the piece.
