In this painting, I explored a few new techniques and textural effects. I used glazing to put a very thin wash of phthalo blue over 2 different silvers - one silver laid down flat (in which the wash puddled over the surface) and another silver laid down with impasto (in which the blue highlighted the texture already there). I used silver foil in about seven of the segments to stand out like a mirror. Finally, I applied diamond dust - a mixture of very thin glass shard pieces - and small glass beads over some of the shapes to give texture. The finished product, with it's whites, silvers and blues, gave me the impression of a very cold day and ice breaking, so I called the piece "Shattered Ice".
