I was commissioned to do a piece that I ended up calling "Prismatic Village" by a coworker who wanted a landscape-oriented painting of a prism in which each color segment was shaded darker at the bottom and lighter at the top. To do this, I blended Mars Black with the color and applied that at the bottom of the sliver, and Titanium White and applied that at the top of the sliver. For each stripe, I put down the unblended color first, and then blended the lighter or darker shade without masking. I thought this was a very cool idea, so I replicated her commissioned piece onto a larger canvas at the time I made it, figuring that I might as well since I had the custom colors all blended and ready to go anyway. Actually because this canvas was larger, it has more hues included for each color family. Instead of the bright gold impasto accents I laid down on "Prismatic Village", I mixed up an antique gold/bronze metallic color and added that instead, including stamping with circles.
