Othello
24 in x 24 in,
4/25
The grid was simple - one inch squares, 24 along each axis, meaning that there are 576 different squares in the piece, each filled in with a different shade of gray. As it was developing, it reminded me of a matrix grid. I decided to finish the painting with black or white dots, spaced fairly equidistantly across the painting. While the finished painting doesn’t really have a focal point, my goal here was to convey a sense of “business” to represent modern day society. We’re all different, but all interconnected in the big matrix of community. When my daughter saw it, she said it reminded her of the board game “Othello”, so I decided to call it that.
