Heraldry

This composition centers on a radiant burst that expands outward to develop a dynamic sense of movement and depth. Golden yellows, ochres, burgundies, and muted oranges were used to evoke a warm sense of vibrancy.  The finished product, laid down on a grid of mostly circles and arcs made with a geometric compass, hints at influences from mathematical art, Islamic tiling, or even stained glass windows. The piece is characterized by fewer colors than I normally use, but my hope was for the textured gold sections and all the mandala dotting to catch the light differently to enhance the picture’s dimensionality and energy.  To me, the finished product resembled a classic medieval crest or shield, so I called it “Heraldry”.
