I based the coloring of this painting on human skin complexions, trying to highlight the beauty of diversity of pigmentation. The pattern was laid down with a mix of straight lines, arcs and circles using rulers and geometric compasses. I filled in the grid with a mix of opaque, transparent and metallic acrylics, many of them custom made. The Van Dyke Brown patches along the edge didn't look quite right as flat, so I bounced an old brush with plenty of paint on it to give them a lot of texture. Since this piece really leaned heavy on geometry for its development, I decided to call it "Geometric Complexions".
