Emerald City

24 in x 24 in,

I was in the mood for green when I painted this one!  There are 30 different green hues incorporated into this piece – a mix of transparent, opaque and metallic acrylics, applied in mixed manner with some colors going on smooth, others “bounced on” to give the illusion of being backlit, and others applied with intentional impasto .  The grid was laid down largely in circles using a compass, with some straight lines added where I thought they should go.  When I first thought of the concept of the painting, I was planning on calling it "Jade Fox”, but after it started coming together, it reminded me more of the Emerald City from the Wizard of Oz.
