My friend and colleague Dr. Jack Geil was retiring from the practice of pediatric hematology/oncology after more than forty years of outstanding service. I offered to paint him a picture in honor of the occasion, and he was drawn to my “Natural Elements” series. He asked for “mainly water and sky”, so I came up with this painting. I tried to convey a sense of an ombre sky by using probably two dozen or more custom blues, blending each with more white nearer to the horizon. For the water, I hoped to capture a sense of flow by applying many different colors of blues and teals and by using a wavy hand motion. I ended up putting a little “earth” underneath, just because I like how it brings it all together. Hopefully Dr. Geil will like how it came out.
