I bought a bendable ruler for making curvy lines, and thought I'd try out a swirl pattern - kind of like a peppermint hard candy - but do it in the colors of DanceBlue, the philanthropic organization that supports the pediatric oncology clinic where I work. At first, I had planned on using dozens of different blues, golds and whites, but as the painting progressed, I felt it would be better to keep things simpler and just use the same six colors over and over again, coupled with paler versions of blue or yellow to contribute to the larger spaces. Though it was a terrific challenge to get the lines crisp and a lot of touch-ups to do, I was pleased at how this one turned out. I entered this into a UK HealthCare Employee Art Call, and they asked me whether Iād be interested to donate it for beautifying the hospital (which I agreed to).
