My goal was to apply the colors of the prism to a canvas, but in random order instead of arranging them in the ROYGBV spectrum sequence. I added browns and neutrals to the piece because I thought they would add to the interest of the finished painting. In total, I used 148 different colors in the piece, many of them custom blended. Of the total, 41 are metallics and 20 are transparent, and they are laid down more or less in a random manner. I did want to add some structure to the piece, so I added black around the edges and to distinct patterns in the body of the work to create a sense of symmetry in an otherwise chaotic arrangement.
