Achromatic Rose

24 in x 24 in,

5/25

I was in a black, white and gray mood, and had the idea of a swirling pattern that resembled the petals of a rose. I laid down pencil lines free-hand and then used them more as suggestions than as a rule when I masked in the color blocks. There are probalby 15-20 different neutrals and silver tones in the piece. The trouble with this painting is that it was hard to know when to be finished. I kept adding shapes on top of prior ones to refine the work. Finally, I just called it done!
