This piece was a lead-up to a large painting in the style/colors of the San Diego (now LA) Chargers NFL football team that I was commissioned to paint. My client liked the look of “Shield" and wanted a square piece with symmetry. I thought about this for some time, and decided that I would include 4 lightning bolts in the piece to reference the Chargers' uniforms. I copied the lightning bolt from a photo on the side of their uniform, scaled it up, and then tried it out on a smaller canvas while waiting for the big 3 ft x 3 ft canvas arrived to get going on “All Charged Up”. I decided to use a different color on this mini piece that i called "Flash" instead of the blues, whites and yellows that I would use on “All Charged Up”. All of the background colors for “Flash” are transparent warm colors that I applied by bouncing the brush to give texture to the patterning. My daughter's friend Elizabeth liked it, so I gifted it to her and her fiancée as an engagement present.
