My mother asked me to replicate “Possibility” the very complex “doodle” painting of blues and browns that is hanging in my daughter’s apartment. While no two of my paintings will ever be an exact match, I tried my best to match the overall feel of the original piece. What I found interesting about the process was realizing how many more technical insights I’ve learned since doing that original painting, starting with the choice of a “portrait-smooth” canvas and sealing the taped off shapes and lines with acrylic medium to reduce bleed around the tape. Incorporating this knowledge helped save me literally dozens of hours of touch-ups in the process. Hopefully, she’ll like the reprise of “Possibility”, this time named “Earthscape Horizon”.
