Circles are what this piece is about - concentric circles arising from the four borders of a square canvas that start from each border's midpoint and overlap all the way across the canvas to the opposite edge. The resulting grid, therefore, has absolutely no straight lines at all, except for the outside borders. I chose to fill in the patterns with blues, greens and aquas, and as the piece was evolving, I added inserts to some of the bigger shapes to add interest and complexity. To me, with the dozens of distinct "cool" colors included, the finished piece reminds me of the ocean, and as I was thinking of potential titles, I recalled that song "Time for a Cool Change" by the Little River Band who lyrics reference the sea over and over again. Then I thought "Cool Change" might also work because coins (change in a monetary sense) are circular.
