This painting is all about gold – there are more than two dozen different gold shades, applied in flat tones and textures and highlighting several shades of metallic gold, including gold foil that looks like it almost vibrates on the canvas.  My goal was to create a radiant geometric piece where texture and light collaborate to create a sense of opulence. The painting is organized around a strong vertical and horizontal axis, and repeating arcs and petal-like half-ovals radiate from the center, as if the geometry is slowly rotating around a still point. Multiple temperatures of gold—from pale champagne to deep ochre—mimic the shifting light of dawn to dusk such that the piece reads less as a static pattern and more as time unfolding in concentric waves. Cracked, hammered, and smooth passages of gold reference worn mosaics, gilded icons, and weathered metal all at once.  In many visual traditions, gold stands for divinity, power, and endurance; here, that history is abstracted into a quiet, contemporary meditation on radiance rather than a depiction of any single deity or icon. Despite its luxurious palette, the precise geometry and measured repetitions dampen any flamboyant excess. The result is a work that feels like standing inside a luminous vault—an intimate chapel of light built entirely from interlocking, golden forms.
