American Flag: Flow

I got the idea of painting the American Flag in different styles and textures. I custom-ordered canvases in the appropriate ratio of the US flag (10:19) and decided to replicate the flag in 5 variations. I added a lot of impasto using palette knives to the blue, red and white to give the picture a "flowing" sort of look. I kept the stars exactly the same (1.25 inch; titanium white with some impasto) between all the pieces to provide unity to the set. My goal is to respectfully represent the flag but with variations between them to make the point that although there are differences between individuals, America is unified by guiding principles of freedom, justice and equality.
